The manikins used in the taxidermy industry are very limited. There are less choices for African and exotic species than North American manikins.

It takes years of dedication, studying anatomy and understanding the difficulties of tanned skins and the tanning methods used years ago compared to today's standards. It is critical to understand the difference from a wet tan compared to a dry tan. It takes determination to work through the problems, come up with solutions and apply these skills in our every day practices.

Taxidermy Mounts Should Vary

A simple observation to make is in a hunter's trophy room. The hunter may have White Tail Deer from Canada, South Texas and Central Texas, and Arizona Coues Deer, California Black Tail Deer, Alaskan Sitka Deer, Mexico White Tail, and all the deer look the same with only the exception in size of antlers and slight color difference. They should NOT all look the same. They should all look like their own subspecies look. We modify the commercial manikin to accurately reflect the animal subspecies we mounting.
